Want to know what Apple Howling is? Or how to make Lamb’s Wool? Well then, come on over to Stephanie Dray’s blog today–it’s Tasty Tuesday!
Stephanie is the acclaimed author of Song of the Nile–A Novel of Cleopatra’s Daughter, and an all around lovely person. She is hosting my post today on Ritual Wines and Ales of the Dark Ages. Thank you, Stephanie!
I’ve learned a lot about implementing social media marketing from Stephanie over the last few months. She sets a stellar example of how to sustain an ever-widening ring of influence by building partnerships, and doing so with style and grace. And, she does all of this while writing and publishing several books in multiple genres!

Hi Roberta – I just left a comment on your guest post on Stephanie’s blog. I’d be fascinated to know more about the source material for Dark Age drinks if possible.
Hi Mark. I’m nost sure how much of a historical purist you are, or what sort of sources you need, but I can offer a couple of places to start. Because I write historical fantasy, I try to at least start with the actual history. From there, things tend to take a whimsical turn. From a scholarly perspective, I know it is generally best to include both primary sources (original texts) and anecdotal references in your research, so I do my best to look at a variety of material. One of my personal favorite resources for medieval culinary information is James Matterer’s A Boke of Gode Cookery (http://www.godecookery.com). Matterer has translated many recipes from original texts and adapted them for the modern kitchen. The best part is that he also includes the original recipe. Another great source is “The Forme Cury” which is a 1390 recipe list compiled in the kitchens of King Richard II. You can find sections of it reproduced here: http://www.celtnet.org.uk/recipes/the-forme-of-cury.php . Hope that helps!
Oh, and by the way, thanks for the twitter follow :).
